Writing Your First E-Book - Formatting Your E-Book
Congratulations, you finished writing your first e-book. See, that wasn\'t so bad was it. You probably found, as I often do, that once you get started, the words just start to flow. Once you get into a zone, it is pretty smooth sailing. Since we are not writing a college term paper, but are writing conversationally it really is fairly simple for most people to write a short how-to book.
Now that you have it written you need to format your e-book. If you used my technique for writing your e-book that calls for you to brainstorm several sub-topics, then you have the basis for your table of contents. With a short 20-50 page e-book you may not even list page numbers, but you can certainly number the sub-topics and maybe add a short catchy description for each one.
Another important part to this process is to include a resources page. This is a page, usually at the end of your book, but I have seen them right up front, that provides additional links to other important resources that your reader might be interested in. These resources could be a link to a subscription page to your newsletter, a link to other products you may have for sale, or even a link to an affiliate product that ties in with your e-book subject.
Adding a resource page gives you the ability to sell additional products and add to your bottom line.
Once you have completed these steps, you need to convert your e-book document. I recommend converting your e-book into a PDF or Portable Document Format. This is a fairly standard format as it can be read on any type of computer and the Adobe Reader Program is free. There are several free and low-cost options for converting your document and once you have completed this step, your e-book is ready for distribution.
