Ebook Marketing Tips

This article compares ebooks with the traditional book format and provides reasons for the future sustainability of ebook marketing. It proposes what the author considers to be the best strategy for ebook marketing.

Although ebooks have now been around for a long time, the growth of the ebook as an information format has not been dented. The appeal of instant electronic access to information on just about everything from the comfort of your own home is part of what is a major cultural shift in the way we consume, perceive and use information as we become more at ease with the Internet as a major medium.

The traditional book format will always have its place because of its physicality and portability but there is a well-defined place for the ebook because of the space saving convenience of electronic storage and the need for instant access to the most up to date information. For these reasons ebook marketing will always be a way to make money but is not without its challenges.

The major challenge facing the ebook marketer is getting their book noticed amidst the huge number of competing ebooks available. This is particularly difficult as consumers are already adversely predisposed towards ebooks given the huge quantity but generally low quality of the products available. Many are grossly overpriced and many others are being sold for very little or just given away. The future does not belong to marketers who sell such grossly overpriced ebooks accompanied by equally over hyped sales pitches. 9 times out of 10 the products don't live up to expectations and awareness of this disparity will only become more widespread and entrenched.

The way forward is to eliminate sales hype and instead provide free or low priced ebooks that actually live up to the expectations generated by the promotional page. Producing a useful product that is free not only builds a marketers reputation, it dispenses with customer dissatisfaction and refund claims and it's a good way of building an opt in list and driving website traffic. Selling a brandable version of the ebook for a small sum so that others can substitute their own affiliate links for yours makes the ebook viral, promoting its spread across the Internet.
