Doctor Who Downloads Available Everywhere!
Peter had a problem. His job at the engineering company often sent him to remote areas in Central America to repair or update their machinery, and so the living conditions in those areas were pretty minimal.
Peter did not usually mind this, for his days were filled with work, and at night he had a library of audio books to entertain himself during the few hours before he fell asleep from exhaustion. However, Peter was a big Doctor Who fan, and had left his audio books on that series at his last assignment. One of the locals had attempted to ship those audio books back to America, but they were misdirected and never arrived. So now Peter was packing to fly out on a new assignment without his set of Doctor Who audio books.
Normally this would not have been any significant problem, for he could simply take time to process several Doctor Who downloads on his laptop in a short time. But, as always happens, his current computer was being refurbished and the company had already arranged for a substitute laptop at his next job location, already full of the company's data.
Peter wondered if his coworkers never thought of entertainment, whether audio books or videos or even just regular books, but then he realized that he was usually the only person sent out on assignment for more than a few days at a time.
What Peter wouldn't give to download a few audio books of some great Doctor Who episodes, making sure to include several versions of the standard joke: "Mr. Eames, the doctor is here to see you. The doctor? Doctor Who?" The quirkiness of the writing and situations of the show seemed to make the intensity and isolated locations of his assignments much easier to take. He would miss them.
Peter thought that there might be some chance to download Doctor Who episodes at his job assignment, since he would have a new machine there. However, remembering that his last assignment was surrounded by mountains, and didn't even have running water (other than the nearby stream), Peter decided this was not likely and resigned himself to five weeks of. . . company data.
He remembered those lost audio books with regret. With that thought, he even considered knocking on the doors of a few neighbors in his apartment complex and asking to rent their laptops for those five weeks, and at least be able to listen to some audio books. But that was silly, and this emergency assignment would just have to be endured.
When Peter arrived, he was amazed to find that there was Internet access available in the area. He had been to the same area a few years earlier, and there were no established towns for hundreds of miles.
It turned out that Bill Gates had built a small complex on the coast about twenty miles south of his location, and had erected modern satellite receiving equipment. Now Peter could download audio books quickly and without any interruptions.
The reception was so good that he could even let the Doctor Who downloads play during the time he worked on the machinery. Ah, glorious! However, Peter reminded himself that he needed to get a new set of audio books for his next emergency assignment. Well, back to work and Doctor Who.
