The two main characters are overweight, and getting more so each season. They are both mature men who cannot suppress their inner child. Some of the other character are unbelievable, as well as some of the cases that are fought in the courtrooms. Then there are the judges. Heaven help our judicial system if these people were really a part of it!

Anyone who watches the program knows that this is BOSTON LEGAL. Most of the people who watch it wouldn\'t miss it. When you really take a serious look at our legal system, the only noticeable difference is that the cases almost immediately go to court. Viewers\' attention spans would not last if the case waited season after season to be resolved. In reality we did have a man who sued the cleaners for an astronomical sum for not having his pants cleaned on time. Many judges do seem quite quirky, and OJ was acquitted after all.

James Spader, as Alan Shore, can make you laugh, cry, get angry, disgusted, jubilant, thoughtful, sympathetic, and any other emotion his role requires. Even his acceptance speech at last year Emmys was memorable. His closing are always moving, especially when you think the case is hopeless.

William Shatner, who plays one of the most unbelievable characters, balances on the edge of a lawyer\'s mental ability. One moment he seems doomed to be committed to a care facility, the next he comes through with an amazing feat of courtroom drama that keeps his record of never losing a case intact. Also evolving around his character are subtle references to his role on Star Trek.\r (Since I was also a Star Trek fan I love these.) He also managed to sneak in his winning an Emmy for his role as Denny Crane.

Candice Bergen came on in the second season adding a stabilizing factor to the firm of Crane, Poole, and Schmidt. Since Poole\'s mental abilities went haywire, and Crane was teetering in the edge, she was seriously needed. Her role as Shirley Schmidt, a former lover of Denny Crane\'s, added another layer of interest to this drama/comedy.

This is a program that I never miss. With all the idiosyncrasies it is never dull. The cases usually reflect what\'s happening in the courtrooms across this country, or a controversial topic in the news. The final moment of each program takes place on the balcony off Denny Crane\'s office. Alan and Denny usually sum up the programs events with cigars and drinks. Their friendship, both on and off camera, is strong in this last scene. Alan even said at the end of last season, \"I\'m going to miss you until the next season.\" And so will I!
