Anxiety Disorders Affect Over 40 Million Americans
Do you know that the average American experiences around 50 stress situations a day? It is no wonder then that for many people, this can develop into anxiety disorders. It is also no wonder that there are over 40 million Americans in any given year that are suffer from the symptoms.
It is commonly known that most anxieties begin with a highly stressful event. This event often occurs before a person\'s 21st birthday. The anxiety journey begins here and if not treated can spiral over time into depression. Various treatments are known and can be applied at any point along the journey.
The farther along the journey a person is, the more effort will be required in the treatment. The good thing is that most anxieties can be cured quite quickly and permanently.
First we need to think about what happened during the stressful event and what adjustments the brain made to protect the person from future harm. Although the brain is a true marvel, it doesn\'t always do the right thing.
During the stressful event the brain begins to register the degree of discomfort. It recognizes this as an affront to your system, and so it goes into full battle mode. We see the affects of increases in adrenalin, tightening of the muscles, nerves placed on full alert, and so on.
It has been proven that how we react to stressful events is the primary cause of most anxieties. Negative thoughts pour into our head, fuelling the brain to react with the battle cry. Successful therapies today are focused on retraining the thought patterns.
Have you ever wondered why two people who are facing the same situation, respond to it completely differently? If you are the anxiety sufferer, then your response would most likely be something like, \"I wish I could be more like Tom. These things seem to just roll off his back.\"
The main reason for the difference in response is the way Tom\'s brain had been trained over the years to not sweat the small stuff. Tom was quickly able to realize that there was no great threat of life in the situation and so he just rolled with it.
Since we already know that stressful events are going to occur multiple times on a daily basis, the cure is in training the brain to accept the event for what it is. We need to focus on the potential positive outcomes, or minimize the potential negatives. We need to adapt a perspective that if the situation is not life threatening then it\'s no biggy.
There are several excellent books and ebooks that provide self help techniques. These books have been successful in curing tens of thousands of anxiety sufferers. The internet is a great source to find these.
The main thing to hold onto is that there are very simple cures, that in most cases we can cure ourselves, and that in most cases the cures can happen in a very short time frame.
To your health!
